Fees & Policies

Fee payment possibilities: health insurance, in-network or out-of-network; use of an HSA card or reimbursement through an HSA account; reimbursement through a flexible benefits account; reduced fee/sliding fee scale is available on a limited basis; fee for service. Visa, MasterCard, and personal checks accepted.

In-Network Insurance

I am in-network with these insurance plans: BlueCrossBlueShield; HealthPartners; Cigna; Aetna; and PreferredOne.

Out-of-Network Insurance

Many healthcare policies have out-of-network insurance coverage that allows individuals to recover all or a portion of a fee that has been paid to a provider.

The easiest way to check on out-of-network coverage and benefits is to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card.  Here are some questions to ask.

  • Is out-of-network coverage for mental health services provided under the policy?
  • Does a deductible apply, and if there is a yearly deductible has it been met?
  • Is there a limit to the number of sessions covered per year?  If so, how many are covered?
  • How much will the carrier pay (or reimburse you) for each session?
  • Does the plan require pre-approval by the insurance carrier for benefits to apply?

Fee-for-Service

Fee for service means what it sounds like: full payment for services/sessions is made at the time of service: Checks, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.

Advantage to Fee-for-Service

Records privacy.  This means that unless you provide permission for me to provide information to your insurance carrier, no insurance company will have record of your treatment.  Your diagnosis codes, which are required for direct insurance company billing and insurance company reimbursement, will not be on an insurance company computer system. I will be the only party with access to your treatment information, unless you ask me to provide information to another party.

Policies & Confidentiality

All policies are outlined in writing, in detail in the informed consent materials provided to new clients at the time of the initial therapy session.

Federal and state laws apply to the protection and release of confidential data. There are situations where I am required by law to reveal confidential information to other persons or agencies. These include suspected abuse of a child or a vulnerable adult; a client threatening serious bodily harm to another person or to himself or herself;  use of an illegal drug for a non-medical purpose during a pregnancy; any sexual exploitation by health care professionals; an investigation or disciplinary proceeding with a professional association, licensing board or law enforcement agency. Other situations where the law requires release of records may include a court order for specific information signed by a judge in a pending legal action; a state or federal law authorizing release of records; and treatment results of court-ordered therapy.
